In episode 8 both Molly and Ben go through some ways to be a good church member, from a lay person and a Pastor’s point of view!
How To Be A Good Church Member From Molly’s Perspective
- Pray for your leadership – and just pray!
- Tithe. I’m not hiding this one further down the list. Generosity is a great virtue.
- Show up! Be there with your presence, in the pews, at meetings, etc.
- Follow through with commitments. Be a person of your word, focus on dependability. You don’t have to over-commit yourself.
- Find a way to use your God given talents.
Special shout out to our listeners! Thank you for listening, for your suggestions and for taking an interest in our podcast. We are having a lot of fun and love seeing and hearing from listeners what they’re doing in their churches!
How to Be A Good Church Member From Ben’s Perspective
- Care about your Pastor on a personal level. No one should be defined by the work they do.
- Find ways to LEAD and not just DO. Pastors need leaders.
- Extend your prayer and care to your Pastor’s family.
- Have the courage to say no.
Bonus! Expectations You Should Have For Your Pastor.
- Pastors need to work hard.
- Have someone to talk to! A therapist, a mentor or an accountability partner. You need self awareness. A great book is Emotionally Healthy Spirituality by Peter Scazzero.
- Be a life long learner. Books and conferences, etc.
- Need to have a competitive edge. Not with the church down the road, but with yourself. Set goals and knock them out.
- Care about your community.
